    What is the difference between the Service BOM and the Engineering BOM?

    The Service Bill of Materials is the serviceable view of the product. Dassault Systèmes create it from up-to-date data in the Engineering Bill of Materials or the product engineering items structure, then keep the two integrated so the service requirements data stays current as engineering revises. Service Items Engineer (SIE) is the role that defines, compares, manages and updates that SBOM, and its Change Impact Management function identifies the service items an engineering change touches, so you can act on each one.

    Which of the four roles does a person actually need?

    It follows the deliverable. Keeping a service parts list in step with engineering points to Service Items Engineer (SIE). Building the maintenance procedure with its operations, instructions and resources points to Service Process Engineer (SVR) on the web or Service Engineer (SEN) in the installed 3D application. Producing an illustrated spare parts catalogue points to Spare Parts Illustrator (SRI), which reads the SBOM that SIE produced. Every DELMIA role from R2021x onward is sold on its own above the platform role, so teams mix seats by the job each person does, and the quote guide works it out from your answers and shows you why.

    Does any of this run in a browser?

    Three of the four do, in Dassault Systèmes' own descriptions. Service Items Engineer (SIE) offers a simple-to-use web-based interface, Service Process Engineer (SVR) is described as a web-based solution, and Spare Parts Illustrator (SRI) is a web solution for the Illustrated Parts Catalog structure. Service Engineer (SEN) is the installed 3D application, which is where the detailed authoring and the service process simulation live. Their own role demonstrations match this: the SIE and SVR films run in a browser dashboard, and the SEN film runs in the installed application.

    How does a spare parts catalogue get built from the 3D data?

    As a chain. Service Items Engineer (SIE) defines the SBOM from the 3D design data and sets the spare part policy on it. Spare Parts Illustrator (SRI) then creates the catalog structure down to the figure with a scope link to that SBOM, filters it to the items marked as spares, assigns them to a figure, and the codification and the spare part table populate from there. Figures are decomposed so a complex product becomes several readable illustrations, and the tables synchronize with the latest design and spare policy revisions. Dassault Systèmes carry the 3D illustration step, where views are created and callout balloons are placed on the illustrated spare parts, on their own release plan for this role, and we confirm with them which release carries it for you before you plan around it.

    We already author work instructions for the factory. Do these roles cover maintenance instructions?

    Partly. Dassault Systèmes draw Work Instructions Authoring as one of the four columns of their service process engineering portfolio, so it is squarely part of this work. The seat for it comes from the Process Engineering side of the same discipline: Work Instructions Author (PWD) and Work Instructions Creator (WIR) both carry Service Process Engineering in their process experiences. So the capability is there, and a complete service quote usually reaches across to the DELMIA Process Engineering page for that one role.

    Is this about supporting the products we sell, or about our own plant maintenance?

    These four roles are written about the product you sell: a Service Bill of Materials derived from the engineering one, maintenance tasks against that product, and a catalogue of its procurable spare parts. Keeping your own plant available is a separate Dassault Systèmes offer, DELMIA Maintenance Management, which sits under Operations Management. The two lead to different quotes, so it is worth ten minutes on the call to settle which one you mean, and we will bring both to it.
