    Lifelike manikins

Human centered product and workplace design

The risk shown on the worker, then designed out

Collision-free postures are created with one click thanks to posture prediction technology. The ergonomic assessment shows the risk location in 3D and suggests how to enhance the workstation, and the same check runs on 4 manikin sizes.

    Where the risk is

    Ergonomic assessment

Quick ergonomic assessment gives ergonomic guidance to product and workplace designers, including those with a low ergonomic background, thanks to decision tree technology. The risk location shows in 3D, on the body of the manikin, with suggestions on how to enhance the workstation.

    • 01Standards and methodsAssessment based on EN 1005, ISO 11228-3, RULA, REBA, and more.
    • 024 manikin sizesAssessments are performed on 05 and 50 percentile female, 50 and 95 percentile male.
    • 03Color on the bodyEach segment is scored, and the score shows as color from green to red.

    The whole task, over time

Create, validate and enhance human tasks

Defining common tasks is simple using predefined actions such as picking up and placing objects, walking, operating a device or using a tool. Work Safety Engineer (EWK) then replays the task with posture animation, so a task already identified as at risk is analyzed from the first step to the last.

    • 01Task sequencingFor multiple humans, robots and devices.
    • 02Time managementFrom task level to motion elements.
    • 03Switch target populationsA task taught to one manikin carries over when you switch to a manikin from a different population.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need an ergonomist on staff to use this?

Ergonomic Workplace Designer (EWD) is made for manufacturing engineers and process engineers. Dassault Systèmes describe its assessment as ergonomic guidance for product and workplace designers, including those with a low ergonomic background, thanks to decision tree technology. Ergonomists are the users they list for Work Safety Engineer (EWK), Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) and Ergonomist (EMA), where postures are adjusted by hand and the manikin is customized. Training on the fundamentals can be added to the quote.

Which standards does the assessment follow?

Dassault Systèmes list EN 1005, ISO 11228-3, RULA, REBA, and more for the automatic assessment. Work Safety Engineer (EWK) and Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) carry lifting and lowering analysis, push, pull and carry analysis and rapid upper limb assessment. Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) adds biomechanics analysis.

Will the manikins represent our own workforce?

The automatic assessment runs on 4 manikin sizes: 05 and 50 percentile female, 50 and 95 percentile male. With Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) the manikin is modified by stature and weight, gender and population (from 7 countries). Ergonomist (EMA) goes further: boundary manikins, targeted populations and specific individuals, so a workforce you have measured yourself is modeled from those measurements.

What is the difference between the 4 ergonomics roles?

How postures are set, and what each role is for. Ergonomic Workplace Designer (EWD) has automatic postures and automatic ergonomic assessment, for early quick reachability checks. Work Safety Engineer (EWK) has manual posture adjustments and posture animation, for advanced ergonomic analysis on tasks already identified as at risk. Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) is for the early product design check, and Ergonomist (EMA) customizes manikin sizes and range of motion. The quote guide works it out from your answers and shows you why.

Is the whole task simulated, or a single posture?

Both, by role. Ergonomic Workplace Designer (EWD) and Ergonomics Specialist (EEA) assess a posture at each step. Work Safety Engineer (EWK) builds the task from predefined actions such as picking up and placing objects, walking, operating a device or using a tool, sequences it for multiple humans, robots and devices, and manages time from task level to motion elements. A task taught to one manikin carries over when you switch to a manikin from a different population.

Do we have to rebuild our workstations for the study?

The manikin is placed into the 3D model you already hold. Where the process plan is on the platform, Ergonomic Workplace Designer (EWD) reuses your process planning data: the resources, the MBOM and the operations already defined there become the inputs for the worker tasks. A workplace that exists only on paper is modeled or imported first, and we quote that as a service.
